Everything To Know About Tape-In Extensions

tape-in-hair-extensions

What Are Tape-In Hair Extensions?

Tape ins are hair extensions about 1-2inches wide with double sided keratin tape that is made of 100% natural hair. Tape ins pretty much explain itself with the name, hair extensions that actually get taped into your existing hair.

How To Apply Tape In Extensions

Section your hair horizontally making sure you start from the bottom of the neck.

Place the first tape hair extension onto your hair. Be careful not to apply the extension too close to the root of the hair, this should allow the tape extension to move and sit comfortably without pulling on your hair and causing too much friction between your scalp and the roots of your hair.

Raise the extension up, clipping it to the hair you tied away at the top. It is normal for your hair to attach itself up to the tape hair extension.

Take your second tape in hair extension and apply it by pressing it tightly against your hair with the first tape extension that you have already clipped up with your own hair sitting comfortably in between.

Repeat the steps above, ensuring that the tape hair extensions are sitting side by side with a 1cm distance in between each extension, to also allow for some movement over time.

Complete your first row of tape, and then move up to your second row 1 inch above the first row and work your way up on your head.

How Much Tape In Extensions Will I Need?

Typically, the average head will use about 100 grams of hair – which is 20 “sandwiches” or 40 separate pieces of tape in.

How Long will Tape Ins Last

One application of tape-in extensions can last from 4-6 weeks! Also, tape ins only take about 30-40 minutes to install!

Frontal And Closure Pros And Cons

Lace Frontal

Frontals are blowing up! Everyone wants a lace frontal because they look so flawless I mean just look at that picture above! you thought that was her hair right? I know! when I first started doing my research on lace frontals I was so in love I wanted one at that very moment! so I went out and bought one! It felt like I watched all the youtube videos and I just knew I would look flawless. I am not a professional hairstylist I’ve just been doing my hair since I was 13 so I think I have an act when it comes to doing my hair. Anyway, back to the lace frontal, I bought my first frontal from Aliexpress because it was a lot cheaper than others and I didn’t want to buy an expensive frontal and mess it up. Long story short I wasted my money on that frontal and the next 3 I bought after that, but the worst part, I thought the first frontal was cheap and that’s why it looked terrible BUT nope that wasn’t the case at all I just didn’t know what I was doing and honestly I still don’t think I do when sewing frontals down, but when it comes to making a wig with a frontal I would say I came a long way! FRONTALS ARE NOT FOR EVERYBODY!!! If you are a beginner in the weave wearing department. Lace frontals are not for you if you aren’t going to a hairstylist to get installed, and going back every week or two to get maintenance upkeep. If you’re on a budget lace frontals are not for you, they can be very expensive.

frontal

Let’s talk lace frontal and lace closure installs pros and cons…

“Glueless”

Even though called “glueless” products are being used. Recently instead of using lace glue a lot of frontal lovers are using Got2b Glued as an adhesive.

Pros: Easy fix you can do, rinses off with water, no skin irritation or hair breakage, Lace lays flat blending in with skin, natural looking illusion that hair is coming from the scalp.

Cons: Lasts about 4-5 days requiring lots of maintenance ;  May break edges if your forehead isn’t big enough to place properly on the skin and if not removed properly.

Lace Glue

Pros: Lasts 2-3 weeks, Lace lays mesh with the skin, can get hair wet depending on lace glue used, can pull hair in updo.

Cons: Glue is messy and sticky, retouch is needed after 2 weeks, Glue causes irritation to the skin and severe breakage of the edges stunting growth.

Tape

Pros: Easy apply and remove, lasts about 1 week,

Cons: Tape may irritate the skin; does not lay as flat as the lace glue, shines through the lace.

NO Products

Pros: Does not use any product at all other than an elastic band if you choose, no breakage or irritation.

Cons: MUST come back for a retouch every 4-5 days because frontal will begin to loosen, Entire frontal must be removed and reinstalled so the stylist can sew the frontal on again making sure it’s tight and in place, causes thinning of hair by the ear because of how much tension used to pull the frontal flat, the lace near the ear won’t lay as flat or will be pulled back leaving edges out.

Elastic Band

Pros: Does not use any product, can last as long as elastic stays tight and in place.

Cons: May slip back if attempting an updo, the elastic band can be uncomfortable causing headaches if too tight, Client will not be able to achieve the frontal sideburn look causing it to look unnatural around the ear area.

Does Coloring Hair Extensions Damage It?

Coloring Hair

Natural brown hair is great but over time can get boring. Have you been thinking of coloring your hair but didn’t want to damage your natural hair? Did you start thinking “Well if I get hair extensions that would protect my hair and I can color it!” so you ended up buying extensions… then you began to think to yourself “I just spent $300 on these extensions…. what if I damage the bundles when I color them? I would have thrown away $300”. This is a very tough decision, “if I color my extensions will they be damaged?”  Well, that depends on how you color your hair…

Hair Bleach– Hair bleach is the easiest and quickest way to lighten hair. Lightening the hair is the easiest way when adding a color. When adding a color on top of the pre-bleached hair you have a choice in choosing a permanent hair dye, semi-permanent hair dye, or demi-permanent hair dye. Using a bleach alone can be extremely damaging to both natural hair and extensions especially if done wrong. There are ways to make your hair healthy again such as deep conditioning and hot oil treatments but in order for hair to become get back healthy, it takes many treatments. Want more info on how to bleach hair extensions Click Here.

Permanent Hair Dye – Permanent hair dye can be damaging but is the best option when looking for a permanent hair color. Permanent dye contains ammonia and peroxide which can be very harsh on hair causing it to become dry and brittle. Conditioning the hair will seal the new color in by closing the cuticle up. Sometimes hair is over processed and can no longer go back to its natural hair color because the melanin has either been extracted until the hair stylist achieves the desired shade or completely eaten away. In this case, the natural color of the hair cannot be replaced you would just have to wait until it grows back in.

Semi-Permanent Hair Dye – One of the best ways to color hair because it doesn’t have peroxide or ammonia and is a much more gentle process than that of the permanent hair color. Semi-permanent dye also known as hair rinse can last up to 6 weeks and only add small color molecules to the hair without changing the existing hair color that much. After several shampoos, the color fades and eventually escapes the cuticle. The only reason a lot of people don’t like using semi-permanent hair colors is because the hair color doesn’t show up as bright as the permanent hair dye and everytime hair gets wet the color washes off more and more with the hair.

Demi-Permanent Hair Dye – Demi-Permanent hair color is very similar to a semi-permanent dye but lasts up to 12 weeks and also contains no ammonia. However, what differs it from semi-permanent hair dye is it does have peroxide.

Although conditioner helps seal the cuticles after being dyed the hair strand will not be able to revert to its previous condition on its own when we use permanent hair dyes. Frequent use of permanent hair dyes will lead to dry and damaged hair. Having your hair colored by a professional sometimes is your best bet, they know exactly how to color your hair without causing any damage.

Stop Hair Extensions From Tangling

Tangled-Hair

How To Minimize Tangling

All hair, including hair extensions, tangle. Some hair textures are more prone to matting and tangling than others. There are, some things you can do to minimize the tangling and breakage that comes from it. Here are some tips:

Condition Your Hair

Conditioning the hair will restore moisture back into the hair, leaving it smoother and less likely to tangle. We recommend to always condition your hair after washing, as well as using a deep conditioning mask every one or two weeks. If wearing curly hair extensions washing with only a conditioner instead of a shampoo will bring your curls back to life.

The Wider The Comb The Better

Using a wide tooth comb or a special detangling brush is your best bet when detangling your hair. Using these combs will remove the tangles more efficiently, while also protecting your hair from breakage and damage. Start at the ends of the extensions and work your way up until it is combed out and tangle free.

Brush Your Hair Consistently

Brush your hair as many times a day as needed using a soft detangling brush or wide tooth comb. The more you comb your hair the less it matting will occur.

Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

Sleeping without a scarf and not brushing your hair will create the most amount matting, this is because when you sleep you’re moving around causing a lot of friction on your hair.  Sleeping with dry hair is best vs sleeping with wet hair is extremely delicate and is much more prone to frizzing and even worse breaking.

Products Matter

Avoid products containing alcohol It really dries out your hair and makes it more prone to tangling.

Detangling Tips

  • Split hair in manageable sections when detangling.
  • Comb hair gently from the ends up.
  • Tie your hair up at night

Grow Your Natural Hair With Weave!

HOW TO GROW YOUR NATURAL HAIR WHILE WEARING EXTENSIONS

Hair Extensions are the solution to a lot of women’s beauty dilemmas. Having full, long, and shiny locks, curly, or even straight hair in the matter of hours which you might have thought was impossible to achieve is now possible! Hair extensions are flexible and convenient, you can choose to wear them on a daily basis or during special occasions. Best of all, you can try any color and cut without damaging your natural hair!

Quality Extensions

HAIRFLEEK Extensions

Sometimes women want the cheapest solution but what they don’t know is cheap hair is usually made of inferior materials that lead to irritated scalp and other allergic reactions. Irritated scalps can stunt hair growth or in worse cases cause hair loss. Choosing 100% human hair extensions over synthetic hair is best especially if you want your extensions to last for a long time. Here at #HAIRFLEEK we carry virgin grade 8A extensions, this will appear natural on you and can easily be styled and curled without losing quality.

Choose Your Hair Stylist Wisely

How-to-pick-a-hair-stylist

Along with having the perfect hair extensions, it’s important to have them installed properly. I would recommend having a professional hairstylist install the extensions, but I know I am very picky when it comes to people doing my hair so if you’re like me and feel like you know you can install your extensions properly and the way you like it then go ahead and give it a shot. Keep in mind poor installation and maintenance will wear out your extensions quicker than it should and also could cause your hair to thin, dry, and break out. Consult with hair experts or do lots of research to know the essentials when it comes to wearing and taking care of extensions. Proper installation will also give your hair a breather from excessive heating, pulling, and combing.

What Is The Best Way To Braid My Hair For A Sew-In?

braid pattern

Braids should be firm and tight to secure your extensions, but shouldn’t be too tight and painful, if they are, they can cause scalp irritation, hair loss, redness, etc.

MOISTURIZE AND CONDITION YOUR HAIR.

Hair moisturizer

Just because you are wearing extensions doesn’t mean neglect your natural hair underneath the sew-in.  You are wearing extensions for many reasons one being to protect your natural hair and grow it longer and fuller. For deep conditioning, use conditioners that are thin so that they can easily reach your scalp and make sure that all your hair strands including your natural hair are covered.

VITAMINS

hair_skin_nails

Not many people are into oral treatments to keep healthy hair because you never know the side affect it will have on your body. From a personal experience, hair vitamins work wonders for my hair BUT I break out with small bumps on my face, once I saw this I immediately stopped taking the pills. I ended up researching to see if anyone else had the same problem and they did, I found out that when taking these pills drinking a lot of water is mandatory so that is exactly what I did and my face cleared all the way up and my hair became fuller and longer. Vitamins and supplements will keep your natural hair strong, and healthy hair helps make the process of adding hair extensions better and easier for your natural hair.

Lets Talk Vietnamese Hair Extensions

Vietnamese Hair

100% raw unprocessed Vietnamese Hair Extensions has never been processed for color, texture, or pattern. Raw Vietnamese hair comes in straight and natural wave. Unlike our Brazilian Extensions that are full of luster and extremely silky, our Vietnamese extensions are known for being thicker and more coarse with a low luster this imitates pressed African American hair. Virgin Vietnamese hair extensions are thick and full of body. With proper care, virgin hair can be re-used for over a year. All of our bundles come from a single donor, so all cuticles are running in the same direction. Vietnamese hair is double wefted so you won’t have to worry about spit ends.  Vietnamese hair is taken and sent for processing where the strands are separated and aligned in the same direction so that it can be fastened from one end which will then be applied to your own hair. Head over to our #HAIRFLEEK Website and read up on  our virgin Vietnamese bundles. We also have Vietnamese straight lace closures and Vietnamese Natural Wave.

How to Install Tape In Extensions

Hairfleek-Tape-In-Extensions

You asked for it… and we got it! TAPE IN EXTENSIONS ARE HERE !!! Tape-In extensions are available in Russian blonde, Chestnut, and Dirty Blonde. Did you know one application of tape-in extensions can last from 4-12 weeks! To apply a whole head of tape hair only takes about 30 minutes with a bit of practice. This is a real time saver and the results can be spectacular!

How To Apply Tape Extensions

Step 1: Section your hair horizontally in line with the tips of your ears, making sure you start from the bottom of the neck. This will make it easier for you when applying the tape hair extensions.

Step 2: Begin by placing the first tape hair extension onto your hair. Be careful not to apply the extension too close to the root of the hair, this should allow the tape extension to move and sit comfortably without pulling on your hair and causing too much friction between your scalp and the roots of your hair. With this method, you are allowing for the tape hair extensions to also be styled in an updo without pulling on your roots too much. Otherwise, the tape hair extensions could potentially be uncomfortable, unable to style, and could cause damage or inflammation to the scalp.

Step 3: Raise the extension up, clipping it to the hair you tied away at the top. It is normal for your hair to attach itself up to the tape hair extension.

Step 4: Take your second tape in hair extension and apply it by pressing it tightly against your hair with the first tape extension that you have already clipped up. Your tape extensions are now neatly stuck together with your own hair sitting comfortably in between.

Step 5: Repeat the above steps, ensuring that the tape hair extensions are sitting side by side with a 1cm distance in between each extension, to also allow for some movement over time.

Step 6: Complete your first row of tape, and then move up to your second row 1 inch above the first row and work your way up on your head. Remember not to place your extensions too far onto the sides of your head or extensions may become visible.

U-Part Wigs Are In!

u-part-wigs

A u-part wig is a wig with a u-shaped opening that allows you to leave out a part of your natural hair to blend with the wig. You can purchase them online or you can make one yourself. U-part wigs are easy to use besides having that transitional visual quality that makes them appear so natural, you can attach on with hair combs, hair clips or sew it on to your weaved in hair. This is why U-part wigs are so popular for wig users: they are convenient to use and versatile, and their use and maintenance are convenient.

What You’ll Need!

wig-materials

Wig cap or U-part wig cap

Wig head

Hair extensions

Wig clips

Curved needle and thread

How To Make A U-Part Wig (Sew-In Method)

First things first gather all materials you will need to make the U-part wig. Choose what braid pattern you would like to use, the beehive method works extremely well but when braiding hair, remember to leave out two anchor braids to sew the completed wig on. You also want to make sure to leave out a section of hair where you will like your part to be, whether that is a middle part or side part. Keep in mind to leave out any section of hair that you feel you need out, this can be your edges and the nape of your hair so you are able to put your hair in a ponytail. Prepare at least 3 needles for sewing prior to sewing the wefted hair on your cap. This will allow you to continuously sew instead of stopping and re-threading that same needle when the thread is finished. Outline the wig by using a white eyeliner to draw a “U” at the very top of the cap. This will provide you with guidance to not sew outside of the boundaries of the white line. Take the longest bundle of your HAIRFLEEK Hair Extensions, unravel the hair. Take one threaded curved needle and push the needle through the first weft of the hair.  Pull the needle through the weft ensuring that the first weft is securely attached to the thread. Place the weft against the cap and sew through the cap and pull through. At this point, you will start sewing under your weft. Continue to push and pull back and forth under the weft, then through the cap. Additionally, as you reach the edge of the cap, fold the track over and start sewing in the opposite direction. Repeat this process until the entire bundle of hair is finished. You will continue this sewing process until your cap is sewn to the very top of the mannequin head leaving out the U-shape area of the wig. Begin to cut any extra hair you don’t need off the wig unit. Proceed to make a knot around the end of the weft. While leaving a space around the stitches, cut off the remainder of the cap inside the “U”. It is optional to sew wig clips onto your wig unit—this allows you the convenience of just placing the wig on your head and clip it down as oppose to sewing it down on your head. If opting to sew it down, just simply sew the wig down around your perimeter anchor braids. Leave out your natural hair that comes through the “U” this gives the illusion that the wig is your hair. Style as desired and you’re finished!
