How to Install Tape In Extensions

You asked for it… and we got it! TAPE IN EXTENSIONS ARE HERE !!! Tape-In extensions are available in Russian blonde, Chestnut, and Dirty Blonde. Did you know one application of tape-in extensions can last from 4-12 weeks! To apply a whole head of tape hair only takes about 30 minutes with a bit of practice. This is a real time saver and the results can be spectacular!

How To Apply Tape Extensions

Step 1: Section your hair horizontally in line with the tips of your ears, making sure you start from the bottom of the neck. This will make it easier for you when applying the tape hair extensions.

Step 2: Begin by placing the first tape hair extension onto your hair. Be careful not to apply the extension too close to the root of the hair, this should allow the tape extension to move and sit comfortably without pulling on your hair and causing too much friction between your scalp and the roots of your hair. With this method, you are allowing for the tape hair extensions to also be styled in an updo without pulling on your roots too much. Otherwise, the tape hair extensions could potentially be uncomfortable, unable to style, and could cause damage or inflammation to the scalp.

Step 3: Raise the extension up, clipping it to the hair you tied away at the top. It is normal for your hair to attach itself up to the tape hair extension.

Step 4: Take your second tape in hair extension and apply it by pressing it tightly against your hair with the first tape extension that you have already clipped up. Your tape extensions are now neatly stuck together with your own hair sitting comfortably in between.

Step 5: Repeat the above steps, ensuring that the tape hair extensions are sitting side by side with a 1cm distance in between each extension, to also allow for some movement over time.

Step 6: Complete your first row of tape, and then move up to your second row 1 inch above the first row and work your way up on your head. Remember not to place your extensions too far onto the sides of your head or extensions may become visible.

U-Part Wigs Are In!

A u-part wig is a wig with a u-shaped opening that allows you to leave out a part of your natural hair to blend with the wig. You can purchase them online or you can make one yourself. U-part wigs are easy to use besides having that transitional visual quality that makes them appear so natural, you can attach on with hair combs, hair clips or sew it on to your weaved in hair. This is why U-part wigs are so popular for wig users: they are convenient to use and versatile, and their use and maintenance are convenient.

What You’ll Need!

How To Make A U-Part Wig (Sew-In Method)

First things first gather all materials you will need to make the U-part wig. Choose what braid pattern you would like to use, the beehive method works extremely well but when braiding hair, remember to leave out two anchor braids to sew the completed wig on. You also want to make sure to leave out a section of hair where you will like your part to be, whether that is a middle part or side part. Keep in mind to leave out any section of hair that you feel you need out, this can be your edges and the nape of your hair so you are able to put your hair in a ponytail. Prepare at least 3 needles for sewing prior to sewing the wefted hair on your cap. This will allow you to continuously sew instead of stopping and re-threading that same needle when the thread is finished. Outline the wig by using a white eyeliner to draw a “U” at the very top of the cap. This will provide you with guidance to not sew outside of the boundaries of the white line. Take the longest bundle of your HAIRFLEEK Hair Extensions, unravel the hair. Take one threaded curved needle and push the needle through the first weft of the hair.  Pull the needle through the weft ensuring that the first weft is securely attached to the thread. Place the weft against the cap and sew through the cap and pull through. At this point, you will start sewing under your weft. Continue to push and pull back and forth under the weft, then through the cap. Additionally, as you reach the edge of the cap, fold the track over and start sewing in the opposite direction. Repeat this process until the entire bundle of hair is finished. You will continue this sewing process until your cap is sewn to the very top of the mannequin head leaving out the U-shape area of the wig. Begin to cut any extra hair you don’t need off the wig unit. Proceed to make a knot around the end of the weft. While leaving a space around the stitches, cut off the remainder of the cap inside the “U”. It is optional to sew wig clips onto your wig unit—this allows you the convenience of just placing the wig on your head and clip it down as oppose to sewing it down on your head. If opting to sew it down, just simply sew the wig down around your perimeter anchor braids. Leave out your natural hair that comes through the “U” this gives the illusion that the wig is your hair. Style as desired and you’re finished!

Choose The Perfect Hair Extensions

How To Choose The Perfect Extensions!

Hair extensions should flow with your natural hair seamlessly if doing a partial sew in and blend so well that others are not able to tell that you are actually wearing extensions. Or you can get bundles and a closure or frontal to match flawlessly. When purchasing hair extensions there are three things you should keep in mind:

  • Texture of the hair
  • Length of the hair
  • Color of the hair

Needless to say, you will have to buy hair extensions according to the texture of your hair. Consider the texture of your hair, is your hair straight, wavy or curly? Choose your hair extensions according to the texture of your hair, avoid wearing curly extensions if you have straight or wavy hair as it will not look attractive and may even be difficult for you to manage.

Choosing the right color for your hair extensions is an important process of achieving a beautiful look. You can find hair extensions in a variety of colors and shades. Unless you are going for an ombre or dramatic look, it is best that you stick to hair extensions that match your hair color as closely as possible. Bright colors are in right now so try out and experiment new styles and hair colors.

Short or long choose whatever look you are comfortable with, if you have always wanted to try short hair because its summer and you want a bob then go short! However, if you love whipping your long hair extensions around then go for the longer hair extensions.

Benefits of having #HAIRFLEEK Hair Extensions?

– Hair Extensions can transform the way people feel about themselves.

  • If you are an indecisive female and love changing your hair… hair extensions can give you a whole new look in a matter of minutes.

  • Hair extensions are great for those who just don’t have the time to style their hair every day. Whether it’s looking presentable at work or getting dolled up for a night out on the town, hair extensions make the process a snap.
  • Hair extensions give you the relaxation of not having to worry about styling your hair back to normal after every 5 minutes or if you go to the gym hair extensions stay in place.

Virgin? Remy? BSS Hair? What’s The Difference?

virgin hair model

Unprocessed Virgin Hair Extensions

Unprocessed Virgin Hair has been obtained from one donor, wefted with the cuticles aligned, and sold.  There has been no processing done to it to achieve a curl pattern or a certain texture.  This is what is called “Raw Virgin Hair.” This hair can be dyed, bleached, treated just like your hair because it is hair that is from a donor. Virgin hair comes from one thick ponytail from a hair donor that has never had any chemical treatment on their hair. Because it is virgin hair it is high maintenance, the same way you would take care and treat your natural hair you should do the same with the hair extensions. Brazilian Hair can be labeled as Virgin hair because it hasn’t been chemically processed but it has been steamed with bamboo to create certain curl patterns. This is something that is often debated because usually if the hair has been processed in any way it is no longer considered virgin hair.

Beauty Supply Store Extensions (BSS)

Hair that is purchased at the beauty supply store has been treated to appear the way it does. Fillers are added to bulk the weft on the hair. Fillers contain plastic which is why sometimes, you will see random colored strands. Beauty supply store will look great for about two weeks, three max. Silicon processing is done to the beauty supply hair to make the cuticles appear to be aligned, but this doesn’t last long it will wear off and the hair will begin to look worn out.  This hair isn’t meant to be color treated in any way. You will also see hair that says human hair blend, synthetic blend, synthetic hair etc all this hair is not virgin hair. Human hair blends are blended with a Futura fiber which allows you to handle heat up to 300 degrees but any higher than 300 and your hair will fry and burn off! There is a small percentage of human hair while more synthetic so you need to be careful.

Remy Hair Extensions

Remy hair is when the cuticles of the hair are all facing the right direction going straight down. The hair that is collected from remy hair may have been previously processed but not all. Brazilian Hair Extensions can also be considered remy because the hair wefted Brazilian hairs are facing down and have been steamed with bamboo.

Non-remy hair that’s sometimes labeled “Remy” but truly is not is hair that collected from many donors not knowing which direction the hair was cut. With this type of collection method, cuticle directions become mixed, causing inevitable shedding, tangling and matting problems. To mask the problems that will arise with non-remy hair, hair suppliers will use harsh chemicals to strip the cuticles completely and then apply a large amount of silicone to make the hair appear soft and silky. This will keep the hair initially feeling silky and soft, however, after a few washes the silicone coating will wear off and the hair will begin to feel brittle causing matting and tangling. Problems will arise with non-remy hair after a few washes and will not last beyond a few washes and cannot be reused. Also, since the cuticles are stripped and not intact, the hair extensions are unable to tolerate color treatment or heat. This hair is sold more than virgin hair and what’s crazy is it’s priced as if it is quality virgin hair. You can find most non-remy hair extensions in beauty supply stores labeled as Brazilian, Peruvian, Malaysian etc.

Which Hair Extensions Should I Choose?

Investing in quality hair will save you money in the long run because you won’t have to purchase new hair with each install and if you take proper care of your extensions it will last you a very long time. Here at #HAIRFLEEK we offer grade 8a human hair and raw Vietnamese virgin hair! But if you are just looking for a quick hairstyle for a couple of days BSS hair will work just fine and save you money for when you are looking for great quality hair.

Lace Frontal Or Lace Closure?

lace frontal

This is one of our most frequent questions! Natural ladies looking to get an install but don’t want to add constant heat to their hair choose to get frontals and closures to protect their natural hair. Frontals are incorporated with a weft to close a sew-in across the front hairline while having Hair Extensions of choice at the back. Frontals are normally 13″ x 4″ and can be as big as 13″x8″ while lace closures are usually 4″ x 4″. Wearing a lace frontal can allow you to achieve a wider variety of styling options that a lace closure doesn’t. Frontals allow you to wear pulled back hairstyles and different parting. The replication of a natural hairline allows for off the face type of hairstyles that are not possible with a regular closure. But if you don’t so much with your hair and pretty much just leave it in the same style then a lace closure is for you. Lace closures are more affordable than frontals while serving the same purpose of closing off an install. One advantage when wearing a closure or frontal is that all of your hair is braided flat against your head and the closure is sewn down, just like you would sew the weft hair of the weave.  None of your real hair is left out, giving your hair the rest of a true protective style.  Unlike full weaves, the closure gives you the freedom of being able to simulate a part in any direction which gives you additional versatility and a more realistic finished style.

Here at #HAIRFLEEK we offer five different textured frontals: Silky Straight, Body Wave, Loose Wave, Deep Wave, and Russian Blonde.

Here at #HAIRFLEEK we also offer 10 different textured closures: Brazilian Silky Straight, Brazilian Body Wave, Brazilian Loose Wave, Brazilian Deep WaveBrazilian-Russian Blonde, Brazilian Kinky Curly, Brazilian Gray Body Wave, Brazilian Natural Girl Curl, Brazilian Spanish Wave, and Vietnamese Straight.

How To Wash Hair Extensions

washing hair extensions

Step 1:

Divide Hair Extensions into two sections, take one section and wrap with an elastic band. Gently detangle one section at a time with a wide toothed comb or paddle brush.

Step 2:

Wet your hair with luke warm water, starting close to the top of the weft where the tracks are. Be very careful as we don’t want to saturate the tracks beneath the weave.

Step 3:

Once the hair is damp, apply a small amount of moisturizing shampoo in a downward motion to remove the initial dirt and excess oils from your hair. Rinse, then repeat this process again until the water runs clear.

Step 4:

Apply a conditioner of choice to the hair, in a downward motion. Leave conditioner in for about 10-15 minutes and rinse.

Step 5:

Dry hair extensions with a method of your choice: air dry, blow dry, or sit under the hair dryer.

Step 6:

The texture of the hair also matters and as a general rule the curlier the hair, the more you will need to wash it to maintain the curl pattern instead of frizz! this is great to do if wearing kinky curly hair.
